Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever music player you have on random.
Step 2: Post a line/stanza from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.

So, guess which band I really like! :D; )

Okay, so apparently Disney bought Marvel comics. While I am currently too lazy and busy to actually look up the details (that will come later tonight or tomorrow, most likely), I do have a quick first blush comment for all the doomsayers that I'm sure are out there.

Cut for those of you who aren't automatically going, 'omg, Disney, ew.' Which is probably most of the people on my flist, but still. )

There are a few feral cats lurking around my apartment. No big deal, there are a ton scattered across UGA. Only this time, the kitty's right outside my building. And every so often, it starts yowling and hissing and making all kinds of racket. So goody for me, I get to enjoy the marvelous sounds of a cat in heat! And it's the night before my last test for my Maymester class! Hooray!

...Spay and neuter, people. Thank you.

Well, my hard drive effectively committed suicide last week. There goes all my stuff. I mean, I didn't lose anything more vital than several Word documents and some image downloads, but still...

Well, lesson learned, I guess. I bought an external hard drive while I was getting my laptop fixes at the Apple store tonight (thank you, free tech support that hadn't quite run out!) Yeah, I'll be using that baby a lot from now on... (Wish it came with a different color sleeve/shock-resistant bumper thing than orange, but I don't feel like shelling out more money to buy a different one.)

So it snowed yesterday. Big, wet, fluffy flakes of it, perfect for snowballs. And it stuck. That meant class was canceled yesterday. Glee!

...And then I tried calling for Chinese. Nobody picked up. Same with the other main Chinese place around here. And the local pizza place, too.

Has Athens really shut down because of a few inches of snow and ice? Seriously? Okay, the snow day's not fun anymore.

So, we have elected our first black President. We are living in history, and I pray that these next four years will help bring America back from this stage of crisis. I'm also praying that some random crackpot doesn't pick up a gun and make this term a short one.

I missed the actual announcement, as I was listening to music and doing homework at the time. But it's kinda scary, thinking that the first election I voted in (and almost didn't, due to a brief mix-up over where I was registered to vote) made this much of a difference.

I'll go back and edit this later so it makes more sense and isn't just some jumbled, confused string of thoughts. But for now, I wanted to record my words on this night. Just... wow.

God bless America.

You know those ads you see in Reader's Digest or the paper, selling "rare" coins or "precious" jewelry for fantastic prices? Well, in today's paper, there was an ad for "raw" emerald jewelry that looked more like something you'd get from your 11-year-old cousin's rock tumbler than anything in a reputable store. And there was the usual pitch about how emeralds are so valuable and precious and have been ever since Cleopatra's time, etc.

Well, someone apparently slept through their history class, because the pitch went on to say that Cleopatra "may have dropped her pearls into her wine for Mark Anthony, but she kept her emeralds for herself!"

Am I missing some modern translation for good old Marc Antony? Wikipedia says that his first name can be spelled with a "k," but I've never seen an "h" in his last name in a reputable source. Or am I free to enjoy my snickering at a clumsy attempt to sell such "precious" jewelry for a low, low price?

(Okay, so the singer spells his name "Marc," too. Thank you, Google. But you get what I'm saying, right?)

I've cooled off since this happened, but I only just now have a chance to write about it, so here goes.

This Monday, we had a fire drill in my dorm. Since I was at anime club, I missed it and thus didn't have to deal with shrill sirens and mobs of annoyed students milling toward the doors. Huzzah!

The next morning, around 7:45, the fire alarm went off again for about thirty seconds before shutting off. After we poked our heads out the doors, we all shrugged and went back to sleep, grumbling and cranky.

Last night, at 12:30, the fire alarm went off AGAIN. This time, it didn't stop after a few seconds. And so we all had to get out of bed and trudge outside, grumbling, cranky, and homicidal, and stand out in the cold in our pajamas. I was lucky and was wearing fleece pants, a t-shirt, and a hoodie. My roommate had the sense to put on a flannel shirt over her t-shirt and swap out her shorts for pants before leaving. One poor girl we ended up standing next to wasn't wearing much more than a short terrycloth bathrobe.

Did I mention it was raining?

I still don't know what caused the alarm to go off. A fire truck came by and a couple of firemen went in to check the building for people staying inside and whatnot, so it probably wasn't just a fluke in the system.

Ladies and gentlemen, let this be a lesson to you: do not light candles or smoke or play with fire in your dorm building. Because then the fire alarm will go off, and you will have a horde of people who would very much like to kill you.

The issue of salvaging my GPA is going to keep me from participating, but for those of you who are going to try, I wish you all the best of luck.

Just don't forget to eat. And bathe. And study, if you're a student. And... *rambles on*

Well, I got my reply from the people at Disney. Thin envelope, standard polite form letter. Bottom line, I didn't make the cut. Guess I won't be working at Disney World after all.

Oh well. At least I won't have to worry about the consequences of taking a semester off...

...Because it's better to ramble about three different things than two.

Well, this week's been a bit of a bust for my weight training class. First the water main broke, which led to the Ramsey Center (UGA's big ol' gym and indoor sports facility for you non-dawgs) being closed... which I found out AFTER I made the trek out there. Oops. And today, our instructor had a scheduling conflict, so class consisted of signing in and being turned loose.

And, since I am lame and cannot come up with something to write about on my own... Give me a fandom, characters, and a theme. I'll see what I can come up with.

Finally, Disney has this spiffy college program where students take a semester off and go work at one of the parks for that time. They live in nearby apartments, rent is taken out of their paychecks, and they get to socialize, take some classes for credit, and network with Disney employees. In a few weeks, I'm going to get a letter letting me know if I've been offered a job there or not. Assuming I do get in, think I should do it?

Okay, so I'm now 20. I still mostly feel like I did before, though I suppose that'll change when I hit 21 next year and get to legally drink. (I have no intentions of killing my liver, though. One strawberry daiquiri, and I'll be good.) And shut up about me being old, or karma's gonna bite you in the tush in just a few months. :P

Now, on to the more current events: I'm back at UGA! I'm all unpacked (organized is another story), and let me tell you now, my dorm this year is so much better than last year! The room itself is a little bigger, and my roommate and I have our own bathroom. *insert more gushing about bathroom and counter space here* There are a few nitpicky details, though. The floors are tiled, so they're cold and slick. First up on the shopping list: rugs. And my space-saving loft bed is situated right below this ledge thing in the ceiling, so I'm gonna bump my head on it a lot. It's fairly hollow, so it doesn't hurt, but it is annoying. The last "major" thing is that the building is located directly behind the football stadium, which probably means we're gonna have to deal with a lot of crazy fans on Saturdays...

Now about my roommate, Elizabeth. She's got posters of Jack Sparrow, Advent Children, and Nirvana up, among other things. Both my sister's friend, who we recruited to help carry the heavy stuff, and the guys who installed my loft looked at them and said that I'm probably in for an "interesting" experience with her. You fools, I'm just as much as a weirdo as she is! Ha ha, I get the feeling that we'll get along fine. I'm planning on dragging her to the anime club when it starts meeting, too, if only once before we scare her off for good, or something. ^^;

So, tomorrow, I've got to... contact an advisor about this stupid scheduling mishap (because there's no way I'm getting from the north side of campus back to the center of it in fifteen minutes that early in the morning!), go around and make sure I can find all of my other classes, get reacquainted with the campus meal plan, and possibly meet up with my friends who I haven't seen all summer. Fun!

My sister is a major twit.

Okay, so about a week ago, give or take, she went to Claire's and got the cartiledge in her ear pierced. She asked Mom and Dad first, like a sane little critter, and as far as I know, she's been taking care not to get the site infected or anything. So far, so good.

Either sometime last night or early today, she went out with her friends. When she got back, she had a twinkly little stud in her nose. Only this time, she didn't have Mom's permission.

Now, I understand that the little darling's going off to college in a few days, living on-campus in the middle of Atlanta and all... But am I the only one here (besides my parents, who are Not. Happy.) who wants to smack Lindsey upside the head?

On an unrelated note, Hairspray is a really cute movie/musical. "Good Morning, Baltimore" will now be stuck in my head for a good 18 hours.

So, while everyone else is lamenting the end of Harry Potter, mourning the deaths of beloved characters, posting their reviews of the book... I have severely cracked-out dreams.

Here thar be... no spoilers, actually. )

That's about it, Harry-wise. There's some sort of frame story to this, where I'm on the computer late at night and hoping Mom doesn't wake up and notice that I'm out of bed. Dreams reflecting reality, eh? ;)

Greetings from Alicante, Spain!

Okay, so I only have like, five minutes left on my clock at this Internet cafe, so I´ll have to be brief. I miss you guys, and man, have these past few days been stressful... But now there´s that beautiful water, so I´ll live.

I´ve been keeping a journal of what´s been going on, so once I get home, I´ll post records of each day or so, so you can laugh at my misery. :D

See (or just talk with) y´all soon!

My friend Jess and I have been watching an FMA marathon all day today. During episode 27, "Teacher," I found something worth notice. The text in books has always been a little odd, but during the flashback, when Ed finds his father's notes about human transmutation in a book, pause the DVD and pay close attention to the actual text on the left side of the page.

To quote a very brief sample, "Review: Alchemy and Herbalists is a full-color 96-page perfect bound d20 sourcebook for DMs and players alike."

Look it up for yourself, the text goes on for much longer than just that. There isn't much more worth saying in this post, other than the fact that the RPG geek in me is squealing her little head off right now. :D Funny what you notice at random, isn't it?

Okay. So, my anime club is making plans to go to Animazement at the end of May. We'll all meet up and have a roadtrip up there, stay in a hotel room where everyone is guaranteed to get a spot on a bed, and a jolly good time will be had by all. Sounds fun, right?

Wrong! Because my mother, as much as I love her dearly, chooses right when I'm in the middle of a meeting to call me up and ask me what dates the con is being held. Then she informs me, "that's when your sister's high school graduation is. Guess which one you're going to attend."

Don't get me wrong. I love my family, and my sister (somewhat reluctantly), and I know that this event trumps my plans. But when an otaku's dream of her first ever out-of-state, road-tripping, official-anime-club-group con is dashed within ten seconds AND she's out thirty-six bucks because skipping out on paying means screwing over the rest of the group over the shared hotel room costs, she's bound to get cranky.

And I have a test and a term paper due tomorrow, followed by finals. Maybe I should just throw myself out the fifth floor window of the library.

Okay, I'm not really going to do something that incredibly stupid. I'll be fine, really. I'm just really stressed and frustrated right now, and I feel like screaming and beating the stuffing out of my pillow, but I'm in the dorms still and can't. Just give me a few days and some serious chocolate therapy, and I'll be fine. Promise.
